The Chinese New Year begins Sunday, January 22, 2023, marking the end of the Year of the Tiger and the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit. Also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year is celebrated with feasts, fireworks and parades. It is a celebration for ushering in good luck for the coming year.
As family members gather to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company, they follow traditions that include wearing red, giving red envelopes, opening windows and eating dumplings, noodles, fish and fruit for luck and good fortune in the new year.
Clean water brings serenity, good health and happiness. It is the source of life and thus, a central part of the new year. Whether for drinking tea, cooking delicious food or cleaning the house, water is the essential ingredient.
To ensure the lunar year starts off well for everyone, Life Solutions, experts of clean drinking water solutions, developed a Luna New Year Water Guide that provides the best ways to protect the safety of household water.

1. Protect against freezing
In colder weather, the water meter and water pipe installed outdoors can be wrapped in a thick towel, cloth or other insulation materials to avoid freezing. The water tank on the roof should be covered with the water tank top cover, and the upper and lower water inlet pipes and valves of the water tank should be covered with insulation materials.
2. Drip water into a line
In extremely cold weather, turn on the faucet to keep the faucet in a line flow state. It ensures the water in the water pipe is flowing and prevents the water meter and water pipe does not freeze or crack.
3. Take precautionary measures
If the faucet and water pipe (PPR and PVC pipes) are frozen, unfreeze them using a hair dryer or wrap them in a towel and then slowly drench the towel with warm water. At the same time, gently tapping the water pipe with a hard object will help break up the ice melting inside the pipe so the water can flow out easily.
4. Keep windows closed
Since the temperature during the Spring Festival is relatively low, close balcony, kitchen and bathroom windows facing north to ensure the temperature of the interior is above zero. This helps prevent the remaining water in the pipeline from freezing and turning into ice.
5. Drain the pipeline
Drain the water in the pipe when water is available to protect water quality. When water is stored for a long time, the residual chlorine in the tap water disappears and the quality of the water may decline.
